25 Dead in River Boat Tragedy, Including Football Players and Fans

In devastating news, a boat accident at the Kwa River Congo has claimed the lives of 25 people, including fans and players who were traveling after a match in Mushie.

At least 30 others survived the tragic incident, according to Renacle Kwatiba, the local administrator of Mushie territory.

As a mark of respect, a moment of silence will be observed during the upcoming World Cup Qualifier match between DR Congo and South Sudan.

The encounter is scheduled to take place this Friday at 7 pm, with DR Congo hosting South Sudan in matchday five of Group B in the 2026 FIFA Men’s World Cup Qualifiers.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup, set to take place in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, will feature African teams competing for a total of nine slots in the final tournament, as well as one inter-confederation play-off slot, reserved exclusively for CAF teams.

Currently, DR Congo sits third in the group with seven points, trailing Sudan by three points and Senegal by one point.

Meanwhile, South Sudan occupies the fifth spot with just two points from four games.
