By Hunter FM Radio reporter

IBANDA – Police are hunting for a man who allegedly murdered his wife and a neighbour in Kyarufubanja Cell, Kagongo Division, Ibanda Municipality on Monday.

The suspect, Posiano Turyahebwa, is accused of killing his wife Phionah Nsimenta and neighbour Narugo Oliva before fleeing. Police say Nsimenta’s throat was cut during the attack. She leaves behind two sons, both below seven years.

Ibanda police have launched a manhunt for Turyahebwa and deployed a sniffer dog to trace him. The bodies of both women were taken to Ruhoko Health Centre IV for postmortem examinations.

“We are doing everything to trace the suspect and bring him before the courts,” police said in a statement.

Kagongo Ward GISO Robert Tumusiime condemned the incident as “tragic and unfortunate” and urged residents with domestic disputes to seek peaceful means of resolving conflicts. He called on the community to help police arrest the suspect.

Byamugisha Jackson, the LC1 Chairperson of Kyarufubanja Cell, said he had never received any complaints of domestic violence or family disputes involving Turyahebwa’s family before the incident.

Area councillors who visited the scene condemned the killings and asked police to expedite investigations. Residents described the incident as shocking and unacceptable, and appealed to security agencies to swiftly arrest the suspect.
