KITAGWENDA - UGANDA: Tension has gripped Kitagwenda High School following the death of a former student, Alinda Onesmas, son of Mr. Baguma Emanuel of Mahyoro, who reportedly met his death while allegedly attempting to steal sugarcane.
The exact circumstances surrounding the incident remain unclear and are currently under investigation by security authorities.
The incident sparked unrest among students at Kitagwenda High School, with some learners staging a strike and reportedly setting ablaze property belonging to the person suspected to have been involved in the deceased's death.
Despite the unrest, the Headteacher, Simon Ahimbisibwe, has assured parents and the public that the situation at the school is under control. He noted that learners had supper as usual and that only a few students, mainly those from nearby villages, returned to their homes, expressing optimism that they will resume classes tomorrow.
The school administration has appealed for calm and called upon the community to pray for the bereaved family as security agencies continue with investigations into the matter.
