The Uganda Electoral Commission has released the programme for the conduct of the 2026 Local Council and Women Councils elections across Uganda!

KAMPALA - UGANDA: Speaking to journalists at the Electoral Commission headquarters in Kampala, the Commission Chairperson, Justice Simon Byabakama Mugenyi, announced that elections for Village Local Council Committees (LC I) will be held on July 28, 2026, while elections for Village Women Committees are scheduled for July 23, 2026.


Justice Byabakama said voter registration for the elections will take place from July 6th to July 10th, 2026. This will be followed by the display of voters' registers on July 13th and 14th, 2026. Nomination of candidates is scheduled to run from July 15th to July 19th, 2026.


Campaigns for Village Women Committee candidates will be conducted from July 20th to July 22nd, 2026, while campaigns for Local Council I candidates will take place from July 20th to July 27th, 2026.


The Electoral Commission Chairperson explained that voting at the village level will be conducted through the traditional method of lining up behind candidates in an open public place.


He further noted that Local Council elections will end at the parish level, while Women Councils elections will progress through the various administrative levels, from Village (LC I) to District (LC V), culminating in a National Delegates Conference scheduled for September 3rd and 4th, 2026.


Justice Byabakama added that elections at the national level of the Women Councils structure will be conducted by secret ballot.


He urged all stakeholders, including candidates, voters, and election officials, to adhere to electoral laws, guidelines, and regulations to ensure a peaceful, transparent, and successful electoral process.
