Mukwala Scores Again For Simba
Uganda Cranes striker Steven Mukwala provided a goal and an assist as Simba registered a resounding 6-0 home victory in a rescheduled match against Dodoma in the Tanzania Premier League.
Mukwala started the match at the KMC Complex, and scored Simba’s fourth goal of the day in the first minute of the second half, before assisting Denis Kibu to score the sixth in the 70th minute.
Elie Kibisawala opened the scoring for Simba in the 17th minute, before Jean Charles Ahoua scored twice, in the 22nd and 45th minutes respectively to end the first half with three goals.
Upon returning for the second stanza, Mukwala quickly got the fourth for the hosts in the 46th minute, before Denis Kibu completed his brace, scoring in the 55th and 70th minutes respectively.
The Friday result keeps Simba second on the 16-team table, but takes the Reds of Msimbazi to 57 points, just one below table leaders Young Africans (Yanga).
All the other teams have played 23 matches, except Uganda cranes captain, Khalid Aucho’s Yanga and Mukwala’s Simba, who are yet to face each other in the second leg. Their much anticipated clash that should’ve been played last weekend didn’t go on as planned – the tie was postponed until further notice.
In 22 games, Yanga have managed to win upto 19 matches, while they drew just once, and lost twice. Meanwhile, Simba have won 18, drawn thrice and lost just once!
The two Tanzanian football giants are still in tight contention for the league title, as Mukwala has also kept himself relevant in the chase for the Golden Boot, after scoring that goal against Dodoma to record his nineth of the season.
Only three players have scored more than Mukwala in his debut season in Tanzania, including his teammate Jean Charles Ahoua (11) plus Yanga duo of Prince Dube (11) and Charles Mzize (10).
The Ugandan striker has surpassed Lionel Ateba’s eight goals, despite always playing second fiddle to the Cameronian at Simba. Mukwala has scored more goals than Yanga superstar Aziz Ki (7)!
Next up for Yanga is an away trip to play Tabora United on April 1, 2025.
Meanwhile, Simba will only return to league action on May 2, away to Mashujaa, as they have a couple of continental engagements lined up in April.
