Flash Floods Wreak Havoc in Kasese District

KASESE - UGANDA: Two juveniles were rescued on Sunday evening after being trapped by flash floods along River Mubuku, between Izinga and Rwakingi I in Maliba Sub-county, Kasese district. The boys were grazing goats when rising waters suddenly engulfed the area.

The same heavy rains that caused the flash floods also destroyed Nkoko Bridge in Karusandara Sub-county, cutting off several communities from essential services such as schools, markets, and health centers.

Local leaders are now appealing for urgent intervention as the region faces yet another wave of destructive flooding. The destruction of the bridge has left many residents struggling to access basic necessities, and the situation is becoming increasingly dire.

The rescue of the two juveniles brings relief to their families, but the incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers posed by flash flooding in the region. As the rainy season continues, residents are bracing for more extreme weather events.

The local authorities are urged to take immediate action to mitigate the effects of the flooding and to provide support to those affected. The destruction of infrastructure such as bridges highlights the need for sustainable solutions to address the region's vulnerability to natural disasters.
