Tensions Rise in Kamwenge Over Strike Claims

Kamwenge Uganda. Tensions are escalating in Kamwenge District following accusations by the Uganda Professional Humanities Teachers Union (UPHTU) against District Education Officer Stephen Barinaitwe. UPHTU claims Barinaitwe spread false information about the ongoing strike by arts teachers.
During the District People’s Parliament Forum, Barinaitwe stated that the striking teachers had resumed work after engaging with government officials. However, UPHTU Vice Chairperson Christine Nasasira refuted the claim, calling it misleading. She emphasized that the strike is ongoing, with teachers demanding a 300% salary increase to match science teachers.
The dispute has heightened tensions in the district, with the teachers’ union standing firm on their demands. The situation remains unresolved, with both sides dug in on their positions
