His appointment comes just a week after the untimely departure of Nemanja Milincic who the club had unveiled last month.

On Tuesday, 1st July, the 17-time league champions have named another Serbian tactician Zeljko has their next head coach but didn’t reveal the duration of his contract.

“Zelko is currently regarded by his peers as one of the best tacticians of modern football. His coaching career spans a period of over 12 years, and he prefers some of the best formations in the modern game. Zeljko’s unique understanding of the game is an exciting prospect for the Club and has no doubt that he will, in the fullness of time, turn around its fortunes and make it the best Club on the Continent.”

He becomes the fourth Serbian tactician to manage the club after Milutin “Micho” Sredojevic, Serbian Zivojnov Srdjan and Dusan Stojanovic.

He is also the seventh foreign tactician to coach at the 17-time league champions, others are Englishman Geoff Hudson, Serbia’s Milutin “Micho” Sredojevic, Serbian Zivojnov Srdjan, Spanish Antonio Flores, Greek coach Petros Koukouras and Dusan Stojanovic.
