Journalists in Western Uganda Equipped with Skills to Report on Agriculture

MBARARA UGANDA. The National Agricultural Research Organisation (NARO) today trained journalists from the Western Region on agriculture reporting at the Las Vegas Hotel in Mbarara City. The workshop aimed to enhance the skills of journalists in reporting on agricultural issues, with a focus on boosting sector awareness.
According to Mr. Frank Mugabi, Senior Communications Officer at NARO, the workshop was designed to equip journalists with the necessary knowledge and skills to effectively report on agricultural matters. "The importance of this workshop lies in ensuring that journalists have the skills to accurately and effectively report on agriculture, which is a critical sector in Uganda's economy," Mr. Mugabi emphasized.
Representatives from Hunter Radio, including Musinguzi Emmanuel and Baryomurutaro Zephrine, attended the workshop. The journalists hailed NARO for providing them with valuable skills and knowledge on agriculture reporting.
The training comes at a time when the agricultural sector is recognized as a key driver of Uganda's economic growth, employing approximately 70% of the population and contributing 23.8% of the national GDP. Effective reporting on agriculture can play a significant role in transforming the sector and promoting sustainable practices.
By equipping journalists with the necessary skills, NARO aims to promote accurate and informed reporting on agricultural issues, ultimately contributing to the development of the sector .
