BY BICHOLIN K MUSISI

On Wednesday 6, 2025, at around 10:00 pm, the Aswa West regional fire, rescue, and emergency response team swiftly responded to a distress call about a fire outbreak at Kakanyero Hotel in Gulu City.

David Ongom Mudong, the Aswa West Police Spokesperson, confirmed the incident. He said that upon arrival, the fire crew found flames raging in the hotel’s store, which measures approximately 10×20 metres and contained numerous items.

Due to the severity of the blaze, the Aswa West team was reinforced by Lacor Hospital firefighters, who managed to extinguish the fire before it could spread to other sections of the hotel and neighbouring buildings.

The fire caused severe damage to several items, including metallic chairs, timber, clothes, and old-model television sets. However, a significant number of goods were salvaged through the swift intervention of the firefighting teams.

Preliminary assessments indicated that the fire was caused by an electrical short circuit.

When our reporter visited the scene late Wednesday night, several hotel occupants appeared visibly shaken and were relocating to safer areas.
