High Court Sets Hearing Date for 248-Acre Land Dispute

Kampala, Uganda |105.0 Hunter Fm News | The High Court in Kampala has scheduled a hearing for a long-running land dispute involving members of the Mmamba clan and businessman Peter Bibangamba, over ownership of 248 acres of land located in Bukaaya, Galuga on Entebbe Road, Katabi Town Council, Wakiso District.

The hearing date was set by High Court Registrar Hallen Rukundo Owembabazi, who announced that the case would proceed on November 4, 2025. The court will address matters that had previously remained unresolved following earlier proceedings.

The dispute centers on claims by Mmamba clan members, including Mukalazi Efusa, Bamweyana Ssava Semwanje, and Sabavuma Christopher, who accuse Mr. Bibangamba and several others of unlawfully taking their ancestral land.

The defendants in the case include the Administrator General, Kaloli Lwanga, John Sebowa, Peter Patwe, Herman Kizito Ssebazza, and the Commissioner of Land Registration.

The plaintiffs allege that the defendants colluded to fraudulently acquire and register the land in question.

In his defense, Mr. Bibangamba, a prominent businessman, maintains that he legally purchased the land from Mr. Peter Patwe, who was believed to be the lawful owner.

However, Mr. Patwe has since denied ever selling the land, casting doubt over the legitimacy of the transaction, relations between the two reportedly soured, leading to additional court battles between Mr. Bibangamba and Haji Kamoga, which are also pending in separate courts.

Mr. Sabavuma also appealed to President Museveni and other relevant authorities to intervene in their case, saying the community has suffered greatly due to the protracted legal battle.

The scheduled November hearing is expected to determine key issues regarding ownership, legality of transfer, and the validity of the disputed transactions, potentially setting a significant precedent in Uganda’s ongoing struggles with land conflicts and customary ownership rights.
