OVER 53 HEAD'S OF CATTLE DIED SUSPECTED ADMINISTERED WITH HOT WATER

SHEEMA  The territorial police in the Greater Bushenyi Region have launched an investigation into the mysterious deaths of 53 head of cattle between June 2025 and February 2026, says SP TAYEBWA APOLLO, PRO - Greater Bushenyi Region.


According to reports, the cattle are believed to have been administered hot water at night by suspected individuals, who would later return to buy the weakened animals at low prices from farmers and sell the meat through local butcheries.


The police say a suspect, Turyasingura Gordan, was caught by a farmer, Turihamwe Lawrence, while attempting to administer hot water to his cattle at Kyandiko Village, Kajuju Parish, Kyabugimbi Sub-county, Bushenyi District.


Turyasingura managed to escape, but left behind his mobile phone, which was recovered by Turihamwe.


Investigations have revealed that eight farmers have lost cattle under similar circumstances since June 2025, with the affected farmers including Kihembo Edith, Magezi Francio, Kiriga Abias, Abenawe Honest, Mugume Moses Kabashekye, Muhwezi Appolo, Kamugisha Felix, and Natweta Lauben.


The police say thorough investigations are ongoing to establish the full facts and bring the perpetrators to justice.


The suspect is believed to be from the same locality as the affected farmers, who are residents of Sheema District, with the majority from Kyabugimbi Sub-county in Bushenyi District .
