SHEEMA - UGANDA: Barinaba Bananas, 46, of Kyeibanga 1, Kitagata, Sheema District, was found dead in a suspected suicide by drowning, authorities confirmed.

According to local reports, Bananas had been struggling to cope with the aftermath of an accident that occurred while working in Kyegegwa. He had been undergoing treatment but recently expressed despair, stating he couldn't continue selling land for medical expenses, fearing it would leave his children landless.

"He said he was going to kill himself to leave the land for his children," said Nazario Bahikira, LC1 chairperson. Yesterday around 11:00am, Bananas was seen walking in the wetland, telling inquirers he was just on a tour. His body was found upside down in a dam near the wetland this morning.

A walking stick, a bottle of liquor, and a torn ten thousand note were found nearby. Security officers from Kitagata subcounty have taken the body.
