Opposition speaks out on Namara’s move to have changes in LoP selection.

By Hunter FM radio Reporter.

The Opposition political parties have spoken out about the move for a section of legislators to push for the election of the leader of opposition in parliament by opposition parties and independents.

Yesterday a section of MPs affiliated to the Patriotic League of Uganda-PLU, led by Dennis Namara, notified the clerk to parliament about their intention to seek leave to introduce a private member’s bill to amend the Administration of Parliament Act section 8 to allow the leader of opposition be elected by all opposition political parties represented in parliament and the independents.

However speaking to KFM, the president of the Alliance for National Transformation-ANT, Gen. Mugisha Muntu noted that if the MPs succeed with this bill it will expose the weakness of legislators in understanding how the system functions.

He said the role of the leader of opposition is equivalent to that of the prime minister thus he can’t be elected by all opposition parties as the case is with the prime minister.

Meanwhile the deputy spokesperson of the Democratic Party, Dennis Majwaala, says this is a miscalculated move however it may succeed because the movers of the bill have the numbers amidst disunited opposition.
