BUSHENYI – The Ministry of Information Communication Technology and National Guidance has conducted an engagement and capacity building session with Hunter FM Radio 105.0 in Bushenyi district to assess the utilization of the one-hour free Government Radio Airtime.

The Ministry team, led by Senior Communication Officer Pearl Natamba, was at the station to identify strengths and weaknesses in how the airtime is being used and to recommend improvements for better public information dissemination.

In Bushenyi, the free government airtime is utilized by political leaders, technocrats, and security personnel who use the platform to inform the public about government projects and programs.

The Ministry plays an oversight role in the implementation of the program. At the district level, the Resident District Commissioner has been delegated to work with the Chief Administrative Officer’s office and the District Communication Officer as coordinators. In Bushenyi, Hunter FM Radio 105.0 is the designated station providing the airtime.

During the engagement, Nakandi Daisy, an official from the Ministry of ICT, took media managers through the guidelines for the provision of broadcast airtime for Government Public Education Programmes.

Welcoming the team, Hunter FM Station Manager Felix Biryomumaisho hailed the Ministry for the follow-up and engagement, noting that such sessions help the station to serve the public better.

Station Programs Director Byamaka Sulait highlighted a challenge of some stakeholders who fail to honor invitations to appear on the station to discuss district issues.

Both the Ministry and Hunter FM described the engagement as successful, with commitments to strengthen coordination between the media, district officials, and government to ensure citizens receive timely information on government programs.
