Tragedy in Mitooma Farmer Found Dead in Water Pond

Mitooma Uganda. A tragic incident has occurred in Ruhungye village, Karangara parish, Bitereko Sub-county, Mitooma District, where the body of Muhumuza Brian, a 37-year-old peasant farmer, was discovered in a water pond on Sunday morning, June 29, 2025.


According to reports, Muhumuza had worked at his family's sugarcane plantation on Saturday, June 28th, and had told his wife he was heading to the garden and then to Karangara trading center. When he failed to return home, his wife attempted to call him, but his phone was switched off.


The body was discovered in the pond, which was covered with a blue tarpaulin, with a Rwenzori water bottle found nearby. Police believe Muhumuza was operating a locally made sugarcane juice extraction machine when the incident occurred.


A team of police officers, including forensic experts and a pathologist from Mitooma Central Police Station (CPS), responded to the scene and are conducting investigations. A case of suspected drowning has been registered.


The family and community are in shock over the sudden loss, and investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding Muhumuza's death.
