Police in Rubanda District are investigating the suspected murder of 65-year-old Zaverio Ruhugye, a resident of Nyakayenje cell, Kitojo parish, Bubare sub-county, whose body was discovered lying along the road to his home on August 17, 2025.

According to reports, Ruhugye had gone to Hakabungo Trading Centre for leisure on the evening of August 16 after grazing cattle.

When he failed to return home, his wife searched for him at the trading centre but did not find him.

The following morning, his son, Urban Agaba, discovered the lifeless body while returning from the trading centre, where he operates a shop.

Elly Maate, the Kigezi sub-region police spokesperson, confirmed the incident, saying detectives responded to the scene and documented evidence.

“A postmortem was conducted at the crime scene,” Maate said, adding that police are urging anyone with information that may lead to the arrest of the perpetrators to come forward.

The investigation is ongoing as police work to establish the circumstances surrounding Ruhugye’s death.
