IGABU Sacco Gets Shs 50m Boost as Members Plea for Factory Reopening

BUSHENYI UGANDA Igara Buhweju Tea Farmers Co-operative Savings and Credit Society (IGABU) held its 8th Annual General Meeting at Igara Tea Factory grounds in Butare, Kyamuhunga, Bushenyi district on March 21st, 2026. The event was graced by Hon. Kinyamatama Juliet, Woman MP for Rakayi, representing Rt. Hon. Anita Among, Speaker of Parliament.
Hon. Kinyamatama announced a Shs 50 million donation from the Speaker, urging IGABU members to increase savings and buy shares to grow the Sacco into a bank. She assured the Speaker's support in addressing challenges, including the factory shutdown.
Adrian Kobusigye, Chairman Board, reported growth in shares and savings despite tea sector challenges, with 85% of shareholders being tea farmers. Elected MPs, including EDI Basajja Ishaka and Eng. Kalisa, pledged support for the factory's reopening, benefiting Sacco members.
Manager Nuwagaba Lilian praised shareholders for the Sacco's 8-year growth. Members, like Musinguzi Denes, shared how loans helped their families. The Sacco re-elected Adrian Kobusigye as Chairman Board unopposed.
Prominent attendees included Bushenyi MPs, LC 5 chairpersons, and RDC officials.
