KISORO - UGANDA: Police in Kisoro District are investigating two separate fatal road crashes that occurred on April 30, 2026, leaving one person dead, another injured, and a pedestrian unidentified.
According to the Kigezi Regional Police Spokesperson, ASP Elly Maate, “The territorial police in Kisoro registered a fatal road crash where one Rukundo Justus, 30 years old, a resident of Kagorogoro village, Muhindura Parish, Kanaba Sub-county, Kisoro District, was allegedly knocked to death and another one, Hakizimana Martin, male adult, was injured.”
ASP Maate explained that the crash happened at around 00:50 hours at Mutolere along the Mutolere Hospital road, involving two motorcycles—registration number UMA 623HL Bajaj Boxer (red) and UDY 197D Yamaha YBR (blue). Preliminary findings indicate that the Yamaha motorcycle, ridden by Hakizimana Martin, was moving from Kisoro town heading toward Mutolere Hospital when it reportedly collided head-on with the Bajaj Boxer motorcycle ridden by Rukundo Justus, who died on the spot. The injured rider was rushed to Mutolere Hospital for treatment, while the deceased’s body was taken to Kisoro Hospital mortuary for postmortem examination. Both motorcycles were impounded and parked at Kisoro Central Police Station pending inspection by the Inspectorate of Vehicles.
In a related incident on the same day, police also registered a hit-and-run accident involving an unidentified male adult pedestrian at Shozi village along the Kabale–Kisoro highway. The exact time of the incident remains unknown. The victim’s body was conveyed to Kisoro Hospital mortuary, where authorities have appealed to the public to help identify the deceased so that relatives can claim the body for burial.
Police say investigations into both incidents are ongoing as efforts continue to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the crashes and identify the hit-and-run victim.
