Police Rescue Kidnap Victim, Arrest three Suspects in Mitooma Operation

MITOOMA– UGANDA: Police in Mitooma District have rescued a kidnap victim and arrested three suspects following a coordinated intelligence-led operation.


The victim, Twesigye Israel, 45, a resident of Sherere Village, Rwaburunga Sub-county, was allegedly kidnapped on 5th June 2026 by men disguised in police-branded T-shirts. They abducted him using motor vehicle registration number UAV 595G and later demanded UGX 30 million ransom from relatives.



Upon receiving the report, police launched investigations and deployed tracking teams. On 7th June 2026, the suspects were traced and arrested in Sembabule District. Twesigye was rescued alive and is safe.


  

The arrested suspects have been identified as:  

1. *Tumwebaze Onan*  

2. *Kakunguru Jacob*  

3. *Naserenga Haustine*  


The motor vehicle used in the crime was recovered and is being held as an exhibit at Mitooma Police Station. Police say efforts to apprehend other accomplices still at large are ongoing.


 

SP Tayebwa Apollo, Public Relations Officer for Greater Bushenyi Police Region, commended the investigating teams for their swift response. 


“Police commend the professionalism, vigilance, and dedication of the investigating and tracking teams whose swift response led to the successful rescue of the victim and the disruption of the criminal enterprise,” he said.


As investigations continue, police reaffirmed commitment to bring all those involved to justice. 


“We encourage members of the public to promptly report suspicious activities and criminal incidents to enable timely police intervention. The public will be kept informed of any significant developments,” SP Tayebwa added.
