Elderly woman with mental health condition found in Kijumo II water pond!

BUSHENYI – UGANDA: Police in Bushenyi District are investigating the circumstances surrounding the suspected drowning of Nyinesafari Jadrace, 77, a resident of Kijumo II Cell, Kabale Parish, Kakanju Sub-county.



Preliminary findings show the deceased left home during the night of 9th June 2026 and could not be traced despite searches by relatives and community members. 


On 10th June 2026 at about 5:00 p.m., local authorities received information that a body had been found in a water pond in Kijumo II Cell and alerted Police. Officers responded, retrieved the body, secured the scene, and conveyed it to KIU Teaching Hospital mortuary for postmortem examination. 


Initial observations revealed no visible injuries on the body.




Relatives told police that Nyinesafari had been battling a mental health condition for about ten years. 


Investigations are ongoing, and police are awaiting the postmortem report to establish the exact cause of death and circumstances surrounding it.



SP Tayebwa Apollo, Regional Public Relations Officer for Greater Bushenyi, extended condolences to the family. 


“We urge members of the public to closely monitor and support vulnerable persons, particularly the elderly, children, people living with disabilities and those living with mental health challenges,” he said.
