Gen Muhoozi Keinerugaba Chairman PLU reshuffles CEC, appoints New secretary General
KAMPALA– Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba has reshuffled the Patriotic League of Uganda’s Central Executive Committee and ordered a change in the General Secretary position, in two separate posts on X Monday.
In his first post at 8:03 AM on 15 June 2026, Muhoozi named the first four members of the PLU Central Executive Committee. "I am retaining Michael Nuwagira, Edwin Karugire, Hon. Michael Mawanda and Andrew Mwenda on the Central Committee of PLU. The rest will be announced soon," he wrote.
Hon. Michael Mawanda, who also chairs the Kampala International University Council, replied minutes later: "Thank you, Chairman Gen @mkainerugaba, for retaining me on the PLU Central Committee. I pledge my loyalty to the cause and to your leadership as we build a stronger, more dignified Uganda. God bless Uganda! God bless PLU!"
In a second directive, Muhoozi instructed PLU National Vice Chairperson Michael Nuwagira to organise the handover of the General Secretary position from Hon. Kabanda to Hon. Fadil "as soon as possible".
"The National Vice Chairperson of PLU, Mr. Michael Nuwagira, is hereby instructed to organise the handover/takeover ceremony of the position of General Secretary of PLU as soon as possible. From Hon. Kabanda to Hon. Fadil. All PLU Ministers and Members of Parliament must attend," Muhoozi stated.
The directive did not specify a date for the ceremony but ordered mandatory attendance for all PLU Ministers and Members of Parliament.
Nuwagira, now tasked with managing the transition, was among the four members retained on the Central Executive Committee earlier Monday. Muhoozi said other CEC members will be named at a later date.
