Congolese National Dies in Custody, Three Police Officers Arrested alongside other suspects in Kisoro!

By Hunter FM radio Reporter.

KISORO - UGANDA: Police in Kisoro District are investigating the alleged murder by assault and a scandalous cover-up involving the death of a Congolese national identified only as Uwimana, aged about 30 years.

According to Kigezi Region Police spokesperson Elly Maate, the deceased was allegedly assaulted by a group of suspects, including Nsabimana John Bosco and Hakuzimana Mpunuseni, following a misunderstanding at a drinking place in Nyabwishenya on May 6, 2026, at around 9:00pm. He was later handed over to Nyabwishenya Police Post and detained on allegations of threatening violence.

ASP Maate said Uwimana was reportedly found dead in custody on the morning of May 7. Instead of informing senior police authorities, officers allegedly connived with suspects to secretly bury the body at night on land belonging to Hon. Kamara. Relatives who later inquired about his whereabouts were allegedly misled and informed that he had been released.

The incident sparked tension on May 8 when Congolese nationals crossed into Uganda demanding answers over the missing man. Three police officers attached to Nyabwishenya Police Post have since been arrested to assist with investigations as police prepare to exhume the body for the postmortem examination.
